A national credit-rating agency is once again downgrading the rating of the Butler Health System.
Fitch Ratings recently moved the local healthcare entity to a BBB-.
They also downgraded Butler Health System’s outlook to negative.
Fitch says the reasons for the move was due to a deepening operating deficit combined with a weaker than budgeted operating loss.
It’s been a financial struggle for Butler Health System since the pandemic. They reported a $40 million operating loss last fiscal year.
Although Butler Health System and Excela Health combined to form Independence Health System, the two hospitals still file individual financial reports.
