The team that eliminated the Grove City football team after their historic season, Cortland from New York, defeated North Central from Illinois 38-37 to win the Division III national championship Friday. It was their first national title. The game was played in Salem, Virginia.
In the Division II championship game in Texas – Harding from Arkansas defeated Colorado School of Mines 38-7. It was the first national title for Harding.
Prior to that game, Colorado School of Mines quarterback John Matocha was named the winner of the Harlon Hill Award – the Division II Heisman. Slippery Rock quarterback Brayden Long finished fifth in the voting.
One college football bowl game will be played today – the Famous Toastery Bowl will be played in Charlotte, North Carolina with Old Dominion facing Western Kentucky at 2:30pm on ESPN.
