An Eau Claire man was acquitted on homicide charges late last week.
23-year-old Dakota Hughes was found not guilty by a jury following a trial surrounding the shooting death of 27-year-old Seth Smith last March in the Eau Claire Borough.
Hughes’ attorney argued that it was a case of self-defense that prompted him to shoot Smith, who was dating Hughes’ mother.
Hughes had been held in the Butler County Prison since the shooting. He was released following the trial.
