The victim of this week’s bear attack in Butler Township is speaking out.
55-year-old LeAnn Galante spoke to our news partners at WPXI from her hospital bed in Pittsburgh. The incident started Tuesday night around 8:30 at Galante’s home on Bellefield Drive.
Galante says she was letting Smoky, her eight-pound Pomeranian dog outside when she heard a commotion.
That’s when she discovered there were four bears in her back yard.
Galante went outside to protect her dog, but that’s when the mother bear came from behind and pushed Galante down. The bear then went on to bite her on the arm and continued attacking.
Galante was able to crawl into the kitchen, where she called police.
Doctors expect her to make a full recovery.
