The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 6-5 in Grapefruit League play Tuesday. The Bucs hit three home runs in the game, including the first of spring training for shortstop Oneil Cruz. Andrew McCutchen also had a hit in two at-bats in his first action since suffering a foot injury last season.
One of the top prospect pitchers – Jared Jones – started the game. He pitched two shutout innings.
The Pirates informed last year’s top overall draft pick, pitcher Paul Skenes, Tuesday that he will begin the season in the minor league’s. Skenes will remain part of the Pirates current major league camp in Bradenton.
