Butler distance runner Drew Griffith won the National Championship in the 2-Mile run Sunday by seventeen seconds in a record-setting performance at the New Balance Indoor Championships in Boston. He won the event yesterday by 17 seconds and Griffith officially eclipsed the national record by four-and-a-half seconds.
The previous record was set by Edward Cheserek 11 years ago. His time was 8:39:15. Drew ran the 2-Mile in a time of 8:34.91 Sunday. He had bested the national mark three weeks ago with a time of 8:38.67 at the Notre Dame Invitational, but the record is not recognized because the Notre Dame track is oversized.
