The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-2 in Grapefruit League play Thursday. Marco Gonzales started the game for the Bucs and allowed one run on just one hit over five innings. He walked two and struck out four. The Bucs play a night game tonight against the New York Yankees in Tampa. They play split-squad games Saturday.
A number of the Pirates prized prospects defeated a group of Baltimore’s prospects 3-1 last night in the inaugural “Spring Breakout” prospect showcase in Bradenton. The Bucs top prospect Paul Skenes pitched a perfect first inning with two strikeouts, including a “K” of Baltimore’s top prospect in Jackson Holliday. Skenes topped 100-miles per hour in six of his first seven pitches.
