The Pittsburgh Pirates fell 3-2 to the Toronto Blue Jays in Grapefruit League play last night. Pirates starting pitcher Bailey Falter allowed two home runs in the first inning before the Blue Jays were shut out the remainder of the game. Falter pitched into the fourth inning allowing three hits and striking out four.
Bryan Reynolds hit a solo home run for the Bucs. Pirates All-Star closer David Bednar made his first appearance of the spring and pitched a scoreless inning. The Pirates have also moved Roansy Contreras to the bullpen, and he struck out the side in the ninth inning.
The Pirates visit Baltimore tonight in Sarasota. First pitch is 6:05pm.
The Bucs play their final three games of spring training Saturday, Sunday and Monday afternoon in Bradenton – then head to Miami to open their regular season next Thursday.
