During Governor Josh Shapiro’s visit to Butler County yesterday he talked about his role in stopping a Department of Energy proposal that would put the Cleveland Cliffs Butler Works facility in danger.
The planned rule would eliminate the need for grain-oriented electrical steel, which is produced at the Butler Works plant.
But Governor Shapiro says he has been working with the DOE and the White House to prevent the rule going into effect.
“I spoke directly to the Energy Secretary and members of the Biden Administration about how concerning I thought those rules were and the speed that they wanted to implement them, along with the devastating effect that would have on workers,” Shapiro said.
There still has not been official word from the DOE about the rule, but Shapiro thanked the Biden Administration for their efforts in listening to reaction about the proposal.
Congressman Mike Kelly is hosting a town hall on the topic this upcoming Monday at BC3’s Founders Hall at 6 p.m.
