The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Washington Capitals 4-1 last night to win their third game in a row. Defenseman Ryan Shea opened the scoring with his first NHL goal less than two minutes into the game. Defenseman P.O. Joseph also scored in the first period to give the Penguins a 2-0 lead. Lars Eller had a goal and an assist and has reached 400 career points.
The Pens have also now won five of their last six and are two points out of both a Wild Card playoff spot and third place in the Metropolitan Division. The loss dropped Washington one point out of a playoff spot behind the New York Islanders for the final Eastern Conference Wild Card spot and behind third-place Philadelphia. (The Islanders moved into a playoff spot last night following their 4-2 victory over Columbus.
The Pens host Tampa Bay Saturday for a 1pm face-off. Pre-game on WISR begins at 12:30pm.
