The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 9-2 Sunday to split their four-game series. Andrew McCutchen hit his first home run of the season, and it was his 300th career home run. Although the team struck out 15 times in the game, they had 10 hits, led by Jack Suwinski, who drove in four runs. He also had a home run along with catcher Joey Bart.
Mitch Keller earned his second victory of the season, allowing two earned runs over seven innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out four.
The Pirates open a three-game series in New York with the Mets tonight. First pitch is 7:10pm.
The Pirates have placed starting pitcher Marco Gonzales on the Injured List with a forearm strain. He did not figure in Saturday’s decision, a 4-3 walk-off win by the Phillies. Gonzales allowed two runs over six innings in that game, while striking out five. He left the game with Bucs leading 3-2.
