The New York Mets defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-1 last night. Pirates rookie pitcher Jared Jones allowed one hit over five shutout innings in his latest start. Although he had thrown just 52 pitches in his five innings, he was pulled from the game in what Pirates manager Derek Shelton said was predetermined. Jones did not walk a batter and struck out seven. He left the game with the Bucs leading 1-0.
For the second straight game, the Pirates bullpen could not close out the game. Reliever Luis Ortiz allowed the three winning runs to the Mets in the seventh inning.
This will be the first series of the season that the Pirates have lost. The Mets host the Pirates to complete their three-game series this afternoon. First pitch will be 1:10pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 12:45pm. Bailey Falter will start for the Pirates.
