Butler City Council has approved the second reading of a Rental Ordinance and Program within the city.
The proposal does not include any changes from when council voted on a first reading of the ordinance last month.
Councilman Don Shearer took a leadership role in researching, writing, and advancing this ordinance with the help of a group of local landlords.
“We get all the talking done early. It’s amazing what happens when people are willing to work together and reach a common goal,” Shearer said.
This ordinance has been a topic of consideration for council for at least 20 years.
Council will now spend time creating implementation language to focus on fire code violations in the first year. This ordinance will go into effect January 1, 2025.
