The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Colorado Rockies 8-2 Sunday and took two of three games in their weekend series. The Pirates had to call two reserves from the minor league’s over the weekend and both were key pieces of the win. Left-hander Josh Fleming started the game and tossed four shutout innings. He allowed just four hits. Catcher Jason Delay was brought up from Indianapolis after injuries to Yasmani Grandal and Henry Davis, and had a three-run double. The Pirates had 15 hits in the game, with Rowdy Telez having three of the hits. He is batting .419 in the month of June, with nine RBI’s.
The Bucs are back home to open a six-game homestand at PNC Park tonight with the first of three games with the Cincinnati Reds. Paul Skenes will start for the Pirates. First pitch is 6:40pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:15pm.
The Pirates and Reds enter tonight’s game 34-37 overall and tied for third place in the National League Central Division.
