Cranberry Township residents spent hours yesterday under a shelter-in-place order following a police search for a suspicious man.
The alert for an active threat was issued around 1 p.m. Around 3:30 police said the manhunt was over after the suspect was “located” in a wooded area near Freshcorn Road. Sources tell our news partners at WPXI that the man was found dead.
It all started when employees of the Cranberry Highlands Golf Course found a disabled vehicle on a private road at the course around 10 a.m. Cranberry Chief of Police Kevin Meyer.
“These employees recognized there were weapons inside the vehicle at the time. Specifically seeing long guns and a weapon described as an AR-style long gun,” Meyer said.
When police arrived they did confirm multiple weapons along with other concerns according to Meyer.
“Inside they could see long guns. Additionally they also saw notes inside the vehicle that were extremely concerning to the officers indicating this man was not mentally stable,” Meyer said.
The FBI and other neighboring agencies were brought in to help with the search.
Police say they located the man at 3:10 p.m. The identity of the man was not released. It’s also not clear how the man died.
