Funding for 911 centers have increased more than expected according to the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency.
After the passing of Act 34 surcharges for phone services went up from $1.65 to $1.95. This led to 911 Centers expecting to see an increase of funding in the second quarter of 2024 of $92.5 million. But according to the PEMA 911 Centers saw an increase of $97.1 million.
The total amount of estimated increase per year is $47.7 million. Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) have over 2,500 operators and handle 15.2 million requests for emergency assistance annually.
