The Texas Rangers defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-3 last night. All of the runs produced came via home runs in the game. Rangers shortstop Corey Seager hit two home runs off Pirates starting pitcher Luis Ortiz. A solo shot in the first inning, then Seager hit a three-run home run in the third inning. Pirates third baseman Jared Triolo hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning.
Outside of the round-trippers to the two-time World Series MVP Seager, Ortiz allowed five total hits, walked one and struck out seven over six innings. The Pirates outhit the Rangers 7-5, but had just one extra-base hit.
The Rangers host the Pirates again tonight at 8:05pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 7:40pm. Mitch Keller will start for the Bucs.
Another Pirates player has hit the injured list. Third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes has returned to the 10-day Injured List with back issues. The Pirates called up veteran outfielder/first baseman Billy McKinney from Triple-A Indianapolis. McKinney had two hits and scored a run in his Pirates debut last night.
