The Mars Area School Board is taking the next step forward with an expansion project at their elementary school.
At their meeting Tuesday night, board members unanimously approved a resolution to authorize the issuance of General Obligation bonds in the amount not to exceed $12.355 million.
This is expected to take place sometime in October. They would then likely issue another bond for the same amount next year with the advantage that two smaller bonds allow for lower interest rates as well as a more favorable tax situation.
This $24 million project includes a new wing at the elementary school. Once completed, the new facility would house kindergarten through third grade students.
The Mars board also approved a proposal from Civil and Environmental Consultants Inc to provide stormwater and permitting engineering services for this project in the amount of $72,000.
