An event Friday will extend a helping hand to support local veterans.
‘Stand Down Butler County’ will take place at the American Legion Post 778 in Butler starting at 10:45 a.m. with a brief opening ceremony and continuing until noon for only Veterans. All other community members in need are welcome from noon until 1:30 p.m.
Over 40 vendors and other organizations will have representatives at this free event to share information with veterans and their families about housing and free services, as well as mental and physical care.
Walmart Supercenter in Butler Township is making a donation of nearly $27,000 in funding and merchandise including coats and boots while volunteers from Walmart will help with haircuts and a homemade lunch for attendees.
This is the ninth year Butler has hosted a local event to honor local veterans and their families.
