In the wake of the tragic deaths due to carbon monoxide poisoning in Butler, officials are offering reminders of safe protocols to take this time of year.
Dr. Shripal Shrishrimal is the medical director of pulmonary medicine at Independence Health System and says symptoms can resemble that of a flu.
“The symptoms mimic flu-like symptoms. But, the problem is when people do not pay attention to the initial symptoms, and as it progresses and gets worse it can lead to major symptoms and complications,” Shrishrimal said.
Dr. Shrishrimal says that there are steps to take in order to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
“Installing carbon monoxide detectors is essential. And having proper ventilation is very important. You have to make sure that we have adequate ventilation when you’re using fuel burning appliances or heaters,” Shrishrimal said.
If you do experience any symptoms, you’re encouraged to seek medical attention right away.
