The Mars Area School District has decided on a plan for new tennis courts.
After hearing from tennis coaches and players earlier this month, the School Board voted to approve a plan that will cost $550,000 with five courts along with an east/west sidewalk. No coaching lane in between the individual courts would be included allowing the district to avoid a time-consuming permitting process.
This plan does not include lighting but does have electric set-up included to allow for lighting in the future or as an alternate if bids come in lower than expected. The district is expected to apply for a $40,000 to $50,000 grant from the National Tennis Association.
The next step is for project manager DRAW Collective to design specification documents and the project is expected to be put out to bid in February with an award made in March. This would result in a construction period of April to July.
