A former historical church in the City of Butler is now gone.
The Shiloh Baptist Church on Hayes Avenue in the city’s West End was demolished Tuesday.
The church was built in 1914 as possibly the first, and one of the only, all black churches in the city of Butler.
Also, the wife of an early pastor was a former slave of Dr. Samual Mudd, who treated John Wilkes Booth following his assassination of Abraham Lincoln.
The future of the church had been in flux for a number of years as the city condemned the building more than five years ago.
