The former Butler Junior High and Middle School now has a new owner.
Following a hearing this morning in the Butler County Courthouse, business owner Steve Mitnick made the highest bid of $475,000 for the former school.
Mitnick said the plans are to turn the older portion of the building into a self-storage unit, and the newer addition into “salon suites.” He says this is a growing trend, where individuals can rent fully furnished space for their own salon-style business doing nails, hair, makeup, tattoos, and more.
The initial plans are for there to be as many as 70 individual suites.
Mitnick was in a bidding war with another businessman, who proposed turning the school into a mixed-used building where the first floor would be for small businesses, and the second and third floors for mid-to-upscale apartments. He ended his bidding at $450,000.
There is a 120-day contingency on the agreement pending zoning approval. Once approved, Mitnick plans on an aggressive timeline and hopes to have the building ready in six months to a year.
