
This year’s bear harvest was lower than last year but still a large amount.
According to the Pennsylvania Game Commission, the total number of bears harvested this year was 2,642—which is about 250 fewer than last year. The top season happened in 2019 when over 4,600 bears were harvested.
Here in Butler County, there were a total of 38 bears taken down after 29 were harvested last year.
The largest bear taken of the season was a 774 pounder in Monroe County.
Over 200,000 hunters bought bear licenses last year for the 6th consecutive year.
