The Los Angeles Angels avoided a three-game series sweep by the Pittsburgh Pirates following a 4-3 victory last night. Angels shortstop Zach Neto hit a game-winning home run in the eighth inning off Pirates reliever Chase Shugart, breaking a 3-3 tie. The Pirates had taken an early 3-0 lead with runs in the opening two innings, but were held scoreless over the remaining seven innings. The Bucs had nine hits in the game, but left seven men on base.
The Pirates move from the Angels in Anaheim to Los Angeles to open a three-game series with the Dodgers tonight. First pitch is 10:10pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 9:45pm. Paul Skenes will start for the Bucs tonight.
Pirates prospect Matt Gorski made his big league debut last night in Anaheim, and hit a home run in his first major league at-bat. To make room for Gorski, who played first base in last night’s game, the Pirates sent Jack Suwinski to Triple-A Indianapolis.
