The Pittsburgh Pirates were swept by the San Diego Padres in their three-game series over the weekend. The Bucs lost 4-0 Sunday. It was their sixth shutout loss of the season, which leads Major League Baseball. The Pirates had eight hits in the game, but failed to score a run after base-running gaffes and going 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
Starting pitcher Andrew Heaney didn’t make it through the fourth inning, allowing four earned runs on eight hits. He also walked four.
The Pirates lost 2-1 Saturday, scoring just one run despite having 14 base-runners. They were pounded 9-4 Friday night.
The Pirates have a short three-game road trip beginning tonight in St. Louis.
