A bill co-introduced by a local legislator that would help protect victims of real estate fraud is one step closer to becoming law.
State Representative Tim Bonner (R-Butler, Mercer) partnered with a Democrat from Philadelphia on House Bill 1406 to designate deed fraud as a second-degree felony.
This will help stop scammers who are forging documents such as property titles or deeds in order to steal property from rightful owners.
After passing unanimously through the House of Representatives, this bill will now advance to the state Senate for consideration and vote.
