Cleveland Cliffs has announced they have canceled a major construction project in Ohio.
The Middletown Works $500 million hydrogen-based steel project will be canceled. The project was canceled after calls for a repeal of the Inflation Reduction Act which helped fund the project.
It would now cost Cliffs over $1.1 billon to fund the entire project themselves. If completed the project would have slashed carbon emissions by 50 to 90 percent according to Cleveland Cliffs.
The project would have created 1,200 construction union jobs and 2,500 existing positions.
