Pennsylvania lawmakers have proposed legislation they say will provide more honest, upfront pricing, and consumer rights.
The Transparent Payment Fees Act will aim to prevent unexpected surcharges and fees.
The proposal will require merchants to disclose any credit card surcharge prior to completing a transaction, prohibit surcharges exceeding the actual cost of payment, and create an enforcement body.
Any penalties collected will go towards the state General Fund.
