A Mars man has been placed in prison after he allegedly went nearly 50 miles per hour over the speed limit going for a “joy ride” in Cranberry Township.
The incident happened just after midnight Friday when an officer saw a vehicle speeding near the Cranberry Interchange. As the officer attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver continued to flee through Cranberry Township.
According to charging documents, the officer ended the pursuit due to the high rate of speed. The officer soon found the vehicle at the GetGo on Route 228.
When the officer approached the vehicle, he found 24-year-old Anthony Retone-Savage, who initially denied the speeding allegations, but later admitted to it. He told the officer he just bought the vehicle and had taken it out for a joy ride.
He has been charged with several driving offenses and fleeing or attempting to elude an officer. Retone-Savage is being held in the Butler County Prison on $15,000 as he awaits a preliminary hearing.
