The Pittsburgh Steelers won their season-opening game with the New York Jets 34-32 when kicker Chris Boswell kicked a career-long 60-yard field goal with just over a minute remaining in the game for the victory. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw four touchdown passes and did not have a turnover in his Steelers debut. He was 22-of-30 for 244 yards. Rodgers was sacked four times.
The Steelers defense allowed the Jets almost 400 yards, and managed just one sack on former Steelers quarterback Justin Fields. Fields went 16-for-22 with 219 yards and a touchdown pass. He also rushed 12 times for 48 yards and two touchdowns.
Chris Boswell has now made 82 of 88 attempts with games on the line in his career, kicking either late in the fourth quarter, or in an overtime.
The Steelers will host the Seattle Seahawks in the home opener this Sunday afternoon at Acrisure Stadium. Kick-off is 1pm.
The Seahawks lost 17-13 to the San Francisco 49ers in their home opener Sunday.
The Buffalo Bills shocked the Baltimore Ravens 41-40 in the first Sunday Night Football Game of the season. The Bills came back from a 15-point deficit in the final four minutes of the game, with 41-year old kicker Matt Prater hitting the game-winning 32-yard field goal as time expired. Prater joined the Bills last Thursday when kicker Tyler Bass was placed on Injured Reserve.
Tonight in Monday Night Football:
–The Chicago Bears will host the Minnesota Vikings. Kick-off is 8:15pm. The game will be televised on ABC and ESPN.
Also in the AFC North – the Cincinnati Bengals held off the Cleveland Browns 17-16.
