A local man has plead guilty to charges in connection with failing to pay taxes associated with his businesses.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, 49-year-old Michael Funovits of Butler entered a guilty plea in federal court to four counts of willful failure to collect or pay tax.
An IRS criminal investigation determined that between 2016 and 2023 Funovits intentionally failed to turn over payroll taxes he collected from his businesses PennRo Associates LLC and Penn Exteriors LLC.
Sentencing will take place February 17th and Funovits could face up to five years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both.
