Butler and some surrounding counties are now under a drought watch.
The DEP made the announcement after the lack of rain over the last two months.
The drought watch factors in precipitation, stream flows, groundwater levels, and soil moisture. The watch is typically issued when three of those four factors are hit.
With the watch, residents are encouraged to voluntarily reduce their water use by five to ten percent.
The watch is also in effect for surrounding counties like Beaver and Lawrence.
