An organization in neighboring Lawrence County is inviting the public to a celebration of a native son this weekend.
The Wampum Community Revitalization non-profit is hosting an official dedication ceremony for a mural of Major Leage Baseball player Richard “Dick” Allen.
Attendees will be able to meet Allen’s sons and the mural’s artist as well as watch a trailer for a documentary film to be released next year detailing the life and career of “The Wampum Whammer”.
Allen played for several teams in the 1960s and 70s including the Philadelphia Phillies and was posthumously inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame over the summer.
