Several organizations have partnered to bring young local students the gift of music.
The Harrisville Satellite Rotary Club along with the Rotary Club of Slippery Rock were able to match a $3,500 grant from the Rotary District to purchase nine refurbished musical instruments.
With additional help from Rotarian Ben Robertson of Blackwood Arts in Marion Township as well as Murphy’s Music Center in Leechburg, young scholars at Broad Street Elementary will be able to try out three trumpets, two violins, two alto saxophones, one clarinet, and one flute.
Murphy’s also provided bows, cases, reeds, and other supplies to care for the instruments. Robertson previously donated a piano and installed a sound system in the Broad Street Auditorium. This follows a visit by some scholars to the Blackwood Arts Center earlier this year.
