Many local families are set to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal thanks to record-setting fundraising at Butler County Community College.
Officials say thanks to private donations and volunteer work, the college was able to secure turkeys and other Thanksgiving food for 83 students in need which is five more than last year.
Private donors were responsible for contributing $5,000 while St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church donated 30 turkeys and Oak Hills Christian Church contributed canned green beans, stuffing and scalloped potatoes. The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank provided a $700 emergency grant due to the delay in food stamps.
The distribution is powered in part by the BC3 food security team and the Pioneer Pantry, which has continued to experience an increase in the cost of food as they help to reduce local hunger.
