A Cranberry Township Business owner is facing new charges after it’s alleged he was loaning out a customer’s vehicle that was then damaged.
Last week the victim reported to police they had given their vehicle to 68-year-old Keith Smith for repairs at his business Oilology on the 1000 block of Route 228.
The victim reported leaving the vehicle with Smith in June and kept being told more work needed to be done.
When officers went to the business the vehicle had additional exterior and interior damage and had nearly 5,000 added miles on the odometer. Police used traffic cameras to show a woman driving the vehicle between June to September in Butler, Allegheny counties, and the Somerset area.
Including the added miles and additional damage in total the estimated damage to the victim’s vehicle is $5,101.
Smith has been charged with criminal use of communication facility, deceptive business practices, and two more misdemeanors. He’s being held in the Butler County Prison on $50,000 bond as he awaits a preliminary hearing.
