Pennsylvania is receiving $193 million in federal funding that will go toward the rural healthcare system.
Members of the Shapiro administration say the initial round of funding will go toward helping preserve rural hospitals and to help the EMS crisis.
There’s an estimated 2.4 million residents in Pennsylvania who rely on rural healthcare systems.
A recent study found that eight acute care hospitals closed over the last five years, and three additional hospitals closed their maternity care clinics in the past year.
