The annual program that helps certain people file taxes for free has returned.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance is now scheduling appointments to help people prepare their taxes for no cost.
The program is for individuals and households with less than $60,000 in gross annual income.
“Last year, volunteers completed 2,100 tax returns, generating over $2.25 million in tax refunds and saving taxpayers about $600,000 in tax prep fees,” Phil Schmeltzer, program coordinator for VITA, said.
The program is staffed by trained volunteers at five different locations, including a primary location at the Clearview Mall.
There will be an open house tomorrow at the VITA location in the mall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. if you would like to talk with representatives about how the program works.
To schedule an appointment you can visit pa211.org or call 211 and hit option 1.
