Independence Health System is still operating at a loss, but is making improvements.
The combination of Butler Health System and Excela Health had an operating loss of $7.4 million in the second half of last year. Butler Health System carried a majority of those losses at just over $6.7 million.
In that same time span in 2024, Independence lost $16.3 million.
The better financial news comes as Independence Health System plans to merge with Morgantown-based WVU Medicine this fall.
