A large amount of federal funding will be invested in helping to restore abandoned mines in Worth Township.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, nearly $456,000 will go to Stream Restoration Incorporated as part of Big Run project planning and development. That will include drafting an engineering design plan to develop a multi-phased plan for future sludge management at the Big Run abandoned mine drainage treatment complex.
Stream Restoration Incorporated will also receive over $213,000 as part of the Hamilton (McCaslin Road O&M) project in order to accomplish water monitoring, engineering design, and permitting required to conduct future maintenance and required improvements to the McCaslin Road passive abandoned mine drainage treatment system.
This funding was awarded under Pennsylvania’s federally funded Abandoned Mine Land Reclamation Program, in part through the Infrastructure, Investment, and Jobs Act.
