Slippery Rock University assistant track & field coach and Knoch graduate Jordan Geist finished with a silver medal Sunday in the shot put at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Sunday in Poland. It was the first world championship medal of Geist’s career. His initial shotput throw of 21.64 meters stood until the final attempt by Tom Walsh of New Zealand, who won the gold with a throw of 21.82 meters. The Indoor championship marked the first time Geist has represented Team USA at the highest level as a professional athlete.
He finished the best indoor season of his career this winter with the third best throw in the world with a mark of 22.04 meters, making him one of just three men in the world to record a throw over 22.00 meters this winter. Geist also won the prestigious World Indoor Tour title and took second at the USA National Championships.
Geist is in his first year as an assistant coach with The Rock track & field team, coaching alongside his parents SRU Hall of Famers Judy & Jim for The Rock track & field program.
