A Prospect woman is facing charges after several animals were found in deplorable conditions in a Muddy Creek Township home.
In March 2024, police were called to a home on the 300 block of Pfeifer road for a report from a pet rescue of 3 to 10 animals being neglected.
When officers arrived on scene they say the property had an “offensive odor emanating.”
Once inside officers found seven Great Dane puppies, two adult Great Danes, one Pitbull and, 1 cat with no access to water and feces covering the floor of the home. Outside four ducks and five chickens were also found living in similar conditions.
According to charging documents, the property’s resident 36-year-old Ashley Ayres, said her son was responsible for feeding, taking care of the animals, and cleaning up while she was away.
Ayes told police that she was selling the Great Dane puppies and had health, vaccine, and other forms of documentation.
As officers continued to go through the home, Ayres told police that one dog had died after being hit by a car and was in a trash bag in the basement. But according to a witness’s text exchange with Ayres, the dog died due to an untreated infection.
Ayres has been charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, 11 counts of cruelty to animals, and 11 counts of neglect of animals.
Ayres is awaiting a preliminary hearing.
