State Police are looking for answers for a Fenelton woman who was scammed out of hundreds.
State police say a 74-year-old woman was scammed out of $700 in gift cards sometime between May of last year to February of this year.
The woman was talking to the scammer through the messaging app “WhatsApp.” The suspect asked the woman to send the cards so they could buy plane tickets and the suspect would later request $10,000.
After the woman declined to send that much, the suspect stopped responding.
To avoid these types of scams, experts say to never send money in ways that are untraceable such as gift cards, crypto currency, or any money transfers.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact State Police in Butler.
