The Butler Township Planning Commission is recommending approval of a land development plan for Cleveland Cliffs.
The Planning Commission heard from company representatives about the extension of an existing building about 65 feet next to Bessemer Avenue.
This project will allow for the addition of four electric induction furnaces resulting in improved quality of product and keeping up with other producers of electrical steel around the world. First Energy will also be involved with extending a line to a substation on Cliffs property.
This development plan will now be considered for final approval by Township Commissioners at their meeting later this month. The new furnaces are currently being fabricated with the first expected to be delivered at the end of 2027 and all four up and running by fall of 2028.
