A New Brighton man is facing a felony charge after attempting to commit retail theft for gas money in Cranberry Township.
Police were called to the Walmart on Route 19 last Wednesday morning for a reported retail theft.
According to charging documents, 58-year-old Craig Singer walked into Walmart without an item. Then attempted to return an air conditioning unit valued at just over $180 for cash but was denied.
When officers spoke with Singer at the store he allegedly admitted to attempting the scheme for gas money.
He’s been charged with knowledge that property is proceeds of an illegal act and several misdemeanor retail theft charges.
Singer was placed in the Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail and a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for May 8.
