A new ruling by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court says that skill games are slot machines.
Justices said skill games must fall under the state’s gaming statutes. The skill games have become very popular, and can be found in bars, gas stations, and as stand-alone businesses.
There is a 120-day window for the legislature to act.
Republican leaders say the ruling is a “critical piece” in forming this year’s budget. Democratic leaders say they are reviewing the ruling.
The Pennsylvania Attorney General also agreed with the decision. He estimates there are around 70,000 skill game machines in the state.
