The Seattle Mariners defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2 in the opening game of their three-game series last night at PNC Park. North Allegheny high school graduate Cole Young hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning off Pirates starting pitcher Mitch Keller, which decided the game. Marcell Ozuna drove in Endy Rodriguez for the Pirates first run of the game in the second inning. Brandon Lowe scored the Pirates second run an inning later. Lowe had two hits in the game, and now carries a seven-game hitting streak. Bryan Reynolds extended his hitting streak to 13 games, and has now reached base in 28 consecutive games.
The Pirates did strand nine runners on base during the game.
The two teams play again tonight at 6:40pm. Braxton Ashcraft will start for the Bucs. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:15pm.
The Bucs are now 2-1/2 back in the Wild Card chase, 10-games behind first-place Milwaukee and are now 39-40 overall.
