A bill that will regulate state lawmaker’s ability to own cryptocurrency has passed the state house with bipartisan support.
House Bill 2037, would ban any public official or members of that official’s immediate family from creating or promoting cryptocurrency they have a financial interest in while in office.
Cryptocurrencies are not heavily regulated by the federal government and can be used for fraud and corruption. It also allows for insider influence to impact currency prices.
The bill passed in the state house with bipartisan support (131-71) and will now move to senate committees before a vote on the senate floor.
