The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has declared a Code Purple Air Quality Action Day.
Due to smoke from wildfires in Canada, an elevated air quality alert has been issued across the state. On “purple” air quality days, air is “very unhealthy” to breathe.
All residents are advised to avoid long or intense outdoor activities, and sensitive groups should avoid all outdoor activities. All residents are also encouraged to move activities indoors.
The American Lung Association recommends taking extra precautions for those who are more at risk, which include older adults, those with respiratory issues, pregnant women, and small children.
They also say air conditioners should be set to recirculate to reduce outside air being pulled indoors and to avoid or limit outdoor activities.
